THE LAZY SONG- BRUNO MARS

I have chosen a pleasing song of a Bruno MARS, “the lazy song”. I listened this song first on TV the channel numberone and found on the internet. It's about not to be so hurried everyday and take a day to relax. I like the song and the music video is hilarious. However, if I had children, I probably wouldn't want them to hear stuff about things "throwing your hands in your pants" and "having really nice sex" but I will mention the lyrcs without these lines. Here there is a so frank expression of feelings, generally I don’t feel like doing anything therefore, these lines appeal to my feelings. These lines themselves are about laziness but the music is so funny and I think there is a contrast between the lines and sound, but I like this contrast.

I bet my old man will be so proud of me

But sorry pops, you'll just have to wait

Oh yes, I said it, I said it

I said it 'cause I can”

Here there is an irresponsibility about school issues. I have sometimes such feelings, but I can’t utter because I know that I have responsibilities. Therefore, I like these lines of the song so much. When it comes to these lines I have a good time even hearing such things. But of course I want to get my college degree;) Also here “old man” is refers to his father.

I love these lines, because it is so true for me. Generally I don’t want to be prepared to go anywhere and unfortunately there are lessons I have to go. Sometimes I want to let everything hang loose, I don’t want to think about anything. But I have to do such things, therefore, I feel good only by listening this song.

 

To sum up, I think this song just proves that not all singers have serious songs. This just shows us what Bruno Mars is like. I love the song, it is amazing, it is so strange, but funny. I recommend you to listen and have a fun.

I want to talk about video of the song. The first video is about an old man who is lazy. He is so lazy that even he goes to the market in pijamas and do somethings only out of laziness. Video is appropriate to the lyrics, but we want to see singer -Bruno Mars-. Then, w can see the singer in the second video. Here he and the others are dancing in a funny way. Also their masks of monkey are good, I don't know whether there is a meaning of wearing such masks or not but this is so funny.

       ANGELS & DEMONS

 I want to talk about the book Angels & Demons of Dan Brown which I read 5 years ago in Turkish version. I read it long time ago but I haven’t thrown off its effects because it is an amazing masterpiece. If I read this book this year maybe my opinions can be differ according to beforehand but not in a bad way, only because of year difference. First of all i will be describe the characters and go on the comments on book. Robert Langdon is Harvard University professor of religious iconology and symbology (a fictional field related to the study of historic symbols, which is not methodologically connected to the actual discipline of Semiotics; in any case, the word should, etymologically speaking, be symbolist, or at least spelled symbollogy. Leonardo Vetra: A scientist working at CERN and a priest. He is researching on antimatter when he is murdered by the Assassin. Vittoria Vetra: The adopted daughter of Vetra. She, like her father, works with CERN. Her research focuses on biology and physics. The reader learns early in the novel that Vittoria worked with her father in their research of antimatter. Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca: The Camerlengo (Papal Chamberlain) during the conclave. He murdered the pope, who is later revealed to have been his biological father. Cardinal Saverio Mortati: The most senior cardinal in the conclave, and the current Dean of the College of Cardinals. Also there are some other characters but these are enough.

                     As for the story: When world-renowned Harvard symbolist Robert Langdon is summoned to a Swiss research facility to analyze a mysterious symbol seared into the chest of a murdered physicist. He discovers evidence of the unimaginable: the resurgence of an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati (the most powerful underground organization ever to walk the earth).

                      The Illuminati has surfaced from the shadows to carry out the final phase of its legendary vendetta against its most hated enemy (The Catholic Church) Langdon's worst fears are confirmed on the eve of the Vatican's holy conclave, when a messenger of the Illuminati announces he has hidden an unstoppable time bomb at the very heart of Vatican City. With the countdown under way, Langdon jets to Rome to join forces with Vittoria Vetra, a beautiful and mysterious Italian scientist, to assist the Vatican in a desperate bid for survival.

                Embarking on a frantic hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and even to the heart of the most secretive vault on earth, Langdon and Vetra follow a 400-year old trail of ancient symbols that snakes across Rome toward the long-forgotten Illuminati lair is a secret location that contains the only hope for Vatican salvation.

 This is a diffucult book to understand but when you understand you cannot forgot its plot, characters or even the details. This can be ridicilous but I have to say that even I didn’t watch its movie because I didn’t want to disappointed with the characters appearance rather than my imagination about them, I didn’t want to replace them with my own characters. I recommend everybody to read this book, at least watch the movie(even I don’t know the movie I can say this)

I read the book five years ago, but I haven't watch its movie or movie trailer until this time. I didn't watch because I didn't want to disappointed with the characters appearances, they might be so different from the characters I imagined while reading the book. However, I like the trailer so much because they make the movie persuasive. I have been curious about Vatican and when I see in this video I was surprised a little because I didn't imagine like this. Also the girl is as beautiful as I thought. I will be watch the film as soon as possible. It is a well-made trailer.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER

           I have chosen How I Met Your Mother tv serial to talk about upon, because I follow it weekly and I like it. Firstly I will some information about storyline: the year is 2030, Ted Mosby is telling the story of how he met his wife to his daughter and son. The story starts in the year 2005, when then twenty-seven year old architect Ted was spurred on to want to get married after lawyer Marshall Eriksen and kindergarten teacher Lily Aldrin, his best friends from their college days at Wesleyan and Marshall who was his roommate at the time, got engaged after nine years of dating each other. Ted's new quest in life was much to the dismay of his womanizing friend, Barney Stinson. But soon after Marshall and Lily's engagement, Ted believed that his life mate was going to be news reporter and aspiring news anchor Robin Scherbatsky, who, despite having had a romantic relationship with her after this time, ended up being who the kids know as their "Aunt" Robin.

           Then, I will talk about the characters: I like all characters but my favorite character is Marshall who is a lawyer. He is so funny because his mimics and gestures are amazing, whenever he speaks I laugh a lot I like his jokes. He seems as if he is a serious guy because of his size and profession but it is altogether out of the question that he is very comic character of tv serial. As for his fiancée, Lily, she is a minion person compared to Marshall (her husband). Lily and Marshall might be different in size, but they are well matched couple. Lily is funny and smart women, I laugh at her a lot. And it comes to Barney, we don’t know his profession even though this tv serial has been showed 7 season, he is so much funny. He says “Have you ever felt like you're alone in your awesomeness?” whenever it comes to my mind I lough at him. Another funny character is Robin, she is comic of course like the others. She is very beautiful and meets so many guys but never have a serious relationship with them. And lastly but most importantly is Ted Mosby who is architect: he is main character and so much funny. I like all the characters, I have been watching this tv serial since 7 season ago and I don’t fed up with it.

I like the video so much because it is first trailer of this TV serial. It tells what is about How I Met Your Mother and who they are. Even though how I met your mother have been watched since 7 season and this video is first of them. Even if it is first trailer of all 7 seazon it encloses the Tv serial even today. Also the music makes an impression that as if this TV serial is a thriller serial, but this mmusic was made only out of comedy. If you know how I met your mother you can easily realize this, but a person who does not know might think wrongly about it.

       FAMILY MEALS


  I have chosen a topic about family meals because I have read some writings about on the Internet and I got some ideas about this issue. For everybody there are meanings of family meals whether they are good or bad. T think this topic is very important to us.
         Some studies show that the more families eat together, the less likely kids are to smoke, drink, do drugs, get depressed, develop eating disorders, consider suicide, the more likely they are to do well in school, delay having sex, eat their vegetables, learn big words, and know which frog to use. If we consider these things, family meals are necessary to us. I want to share a quote I have read: “ıf ıt were just about food, we would squirt it into their mouths with a tube. A meal is about civilization children. It is about teaching them to be a member of their culture.” This quote is so impressive and definitely true. For example, we are university students live in dormitories and eat our meals ourselves or out, most of us have no family meals. We can eat, too but we can’t utilize the family meal and I think we miss many of things that are good for us. According to some studies the families with the least educated parents, for example eat together the most; parents with less than a high school education share more meals with their kids than do parents with high diplomas or college degrees. This may seem odd I observed this, too. Educated families haven’t so much time to spend with their children and eat together. For the last topic I have learned that when kids help their prepare meal they are much likely to eat it, and it is a useful skill that seems to build self-esteem. I agree with it because if parents let their children help, children can build self-esteem and beside can gain more experience.

I want to say that I searched for this video a lot but we can see that this video meets what I want to say in the writing above. It is about family meals especially it mentions from children in terms of having their meals with their families. I agree with the video because children who are eating with their family are both healthy and happier than the others. Also giving such a video with the writing is beneficial in terms of visual aspect of this topic. It is good to see that this video gives the results of some studies, and according to these studies it tells about what we should eat or what we shouldn’t eat.  Than it talks about child success in connection with the family meals I agree with it because children can be more successful with the help of family meal. Also I like the way it tells that children should be allowed to serve themselves and it will provide them to gain control in their lives. To sum up I like this video because it helps me to transfer what I want to say.         

 ENEMIES IN WAR, IN PEACE FRIENDS

          I didn’t have any idea about The Declaration of Independence, and after reading that I very impressed with it so I decided on talking about The Declaration of Independence. Firstly, it talks about tyranny of King of Great Britain, who ruled the British Empire from 1760 to 1820. Then, it ended with the decision of the Representatives of the United States of America. It is mainly about: “all men are equal and there are certain unreliable rights that governments should never violate”. I want to talk about talk about several points and mention them with my own opinions if I could understand it correctly.
                      First of all, I want to talk about “Life, Liberty, Happiness”: all men are equal and everybody has rights to have life, liberty, happiness. On the other side, his (King of Great Britain) work of “death, desolation, tyranny” has affected me so much in a bad way. In the declaration all facts were submitted and I will mention some of them. King of Great Britain gave harm to public so much. He refused his Assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good. He repeated injuries and usurpations for the purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures. There are some reasons for all these implementations and one of them made me so upset: for taking their Chartes, abolishing their most valuable laws, and altering fundamentally the forms of their Governments. This is very touching situation for public! As for the most sorrowful one (this is my own thought): he constrained their fellow Citizens taken Captive on the High Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executions of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their hands. I think this shows how load the period is and indicator of mismanagement. In the end of declaration, they decide that such a tyrant is unfit to be ruler of a free people and they declare The Independence!


COMMENT ON VIDEO

Firstly, this topic is the most beautiful one for me because I had fun while writing about this issue and this video is related to this topic. It gives some information at the beginning in line with what I said above, and songs start. While songs are heard some pictures come to our vision and it provides a good quality. The songs are not random but they are special songs and also I want to pay attention the pictures that pass. We can feel the importance of this subject with such a marvelous video and we can imagine the feelings of people with the songs and pictures. I recommend to pay attention the last words of this video, they are so important.

   DON'T PUNISH

I have chosen such a topic to write because punisment is widely used by people even it is named as punishment “method”! Punishment is used in working, rising children, even in the field of training. Do you think that punishment is an effective way or wrong ? Punishment is known as authoritative imposition of something negative or unpleasant on a person in response to behavior deemed wrong by an individual or group. Most people seem to think punishment is good, but what do you think about that ? I agree with such people that think it is good to some extent. When a rule is violated there is nothing much left. If somebody deserves to be treated badly; it must be applied to, of course! However, in general punishment shouldn’t be the method of every situation. For example, it is not an education method. In fact, it is the least effective way changing someone’s behavior or improving their performance. Yes, it is useful to change behaviors but in an unfavorably way. There are a lot of educated men who think punishment curbs undesirable behaviors and they will continue considering like that until they try different methods to change bad behaviors. To prove that: a study found that zero-tolerance programs were adopted by the state’s public school programs the frequency of targeted offenses soared! As being both teenagers and prospective teachers we have to think about deeply.

BEING AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT IN USA

1) We can see that three of the students are happy with their education in USA. For Linxi American schools provides more opportunities and the all practices reaaly help them, for Krishna American education systems very different from their system and the big difference is that American education system is based on creativity and team work which she really likes to do. Kishna says the biggest benefit is the new goal she has created in her life.

2) the reasons for deciding to go to the USA for education are different for each student even if they close. For example for Linxi in Chine she had to have high scores and only some certain schools offer the major she wants. For Krishna Ohio is small university and easier to get used to new culture than she coming from. And for the last student, he has already got used to study in foreing country.

3) There are some differences for all students in good way; for Linxi it is kind of a small town and really quite, and for Krishna American education system is more flexible than their strict education system. Arata likes people because they are different from his own country, in his own country people emphasize on indirect communication and they have to read people's minds but in USA they tell what they think it is easier. And small class size are good for communation with faculty members. Linxi sees American culture better, they uses dry machines in America but in China they don't, just hang clothes outside.

4)It is about 30.000 $, For Krishna it includes boarding, meal plan and Arata says that it depends on which department you study, housing and the meals.

5) Linxi had difficulty in communication, then she got used to language. Krishna says everybody has culture shock , this is quite normal and she had too. Arata don't have problems because he get used to study in foreign contries.

6) They have experienced cultural shock when they went to America first because it is a process people have experienced and feel confused when they go another country. Arata says they don't get embrassed easily, linxi had problems with language and Krisna had some problems, too.

7) I have cultural shock when I came to METU, but it is not as much as international students because I didn't change my country, only city. And, of course I have got used to both Ankara and METU atmosphere

BEING A STUDENT AT METU

I am not a first year student, but a sophomore student at metu. Hovewer, I can mention some problems I have encountered in METU and some changes in my life since the beginning of my student life at METU. Firstly, I have to say that METU is a perfect school I love being on METU campus. Last year I encountered some probemlems with adaptation issues like lessons, friends etc. I know that atmosphere of our school is gorgeous, but it does not mean that every student feel right from the first day to the graduation. Of course I had some problems at the beginning of my student life at METU although I knew its excellence. As for the problems, first and most important one was about lessons. Being a new student at somewhere ( not only at METU ) is diffucult for a person, we studied at high school for four years and we acquired some habits. When it comes to university lessons they are much more different from the previous ones. I suffered most from the complexity of our curriculum, it was much more different from high school curriculum. I had diffuculty finding the right classes, then I solved this problem by getting used to our departmant and classes. Another problem was about the new friends and friendships; at the beginnig of our school we hung out with a group which had 15 student from the same department. I couldn't cognize how to behave I mean, I could't know whether I should be with a few friends or not. This was a big problem for a new student, but now I feel good with my close friends and they are less than five people. Also I could realize the blessing of Metu in terms of friendship by joining the student groups at campus. On the other hand Metu is a diffucult school, we already know that but I think it is worth to being student at METU. For example, sometimes I feel getting stressed while doing homeworks and at these times I think that I can not get used to METU. But, it comes to the life at campus and to the student groups we spend great times together I feel perfect being student at METU. So, I can say that all diffuculties worth it. There is another problem for most of the students encounters but not me: staying away from home, but this was not a challenge for me because I was a student at boarding school and dormitories of METU are more comfortable than the one of my high school. Facilities of METU makes it easy to get rid of adaptation process such as internet facility. Also, almost everyday there is an activity at KKM and they are good for us, another thing is the theater shows of students of METU. Whenever I feel bad I look up the site of METU and I can find some activitie like that. All these things are facilitator for me thanks to the atmosphere of METU. Except from the diffucilties of being student at METU I want to talk about the differences of being student at METU: there is something that we do not find anywhere else. In the simplest term, the spring fest of METU is definetely different from any other school because of its perfect atmosphere. It is both diffucult and beautiful, like most of the students I know this fact and I accept the all hardship. I think these two opposite poles are special to METU. In conclusion, I like being student at METU and I want to carry on my studies at METU.
